Dress Coded by Carrie Firestone

*This book is a YA novel, recommended for ages 13+

Molly Frost knows why the entire eighth grade can’t go on their camping trip to Strawberry
Falls.
Not because someone set off a stink bomb in the girls locker room, or some kid pulled a
prank in the teacher’s lounge-no…….it’s because another girl got dress coded.

The deal with the principal of Fisher Middle School was that if no one got dress coded until the camping trip, they could go. Everyone obeyed him, until the last week.

And that’s when things got out of control.

So, to protest against it all, Molly starts Dress Coded: A Podcast. A place where every girl who has been ridiculed at Fisher Middle talks about their experience. And as the podcast takes off, Molly learns more and more about the high school seniors, former and current students who are so mad about how much they can’t do.

Like the girl who had a fever, and got dress coded for taking off her hoodie. Or the girl who got dress coded for letting her hair go natural. The bigger girls. The taller girls. The girls who are perfect just the way they are, but hide in the bathroom because they’re so afraid of getting dress coded. The girls who deserve to be heard. To be seen.

Before she knows it, Molly has started a revolution. A revolution that just might work. If it doesn’t , Molly will have let down so many girls that are hungry for a change….including herself.

For the first time in her life, Molly Frost has stood up against injustice….and she just can’t stop now.
