Book Banning

Book banning is an initiative that has blown up over the past few years, with schools banning books all over the US because they deal with difficult topics, especially those that have to do with race, gender, or sexuality.

Texas leads the way in banning books and censoring the ideas contained in their pages. From July 2021 to June 2022, 801 books were banned across 22 Texas school districts.

Texas has continuously targeted books that focus on topics like LGBTQIA+ and protagonists of color. Although San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg has tried to take a stand against book banning and censorship with the San Antonio Public Library, books are still being taken off the shelves.
