Eventown by Corey Ann Haydu

Twins Elodee and Naomi are leaving their hometown Juniper for good. After a long and hard year, their mom says that it’s time for a fresh start in Eventown, the perfect place to live. So, the family packs up and moves to a town where everything and everybody, is perfect.

Eventown is perfect indeed. Full of white swings covered in vines, amazing ice cream, bonfires, a butterfly garden, and most importantly, new friends.

But Elodee starts noticing some weird things in Eventown. The ice-cream shop only serves three perfect flavors, rotating everyday…and the ice-cream never drips!! There’s only one perfect song everyone listens to, one perfect gymnastics routine a month for everyone, and the perfect library doesn’t have any writing in any of the perfect, gold-spined, hardcover books!

Elodee is determined to get to the bottom of this, but her twin, not so much. Naomi wants to be perfect like her friend Betsy, and forget all the dripping ice cream, silly routines, well-loved books, and unforgetful memories of Juniper. Elodee suspects that this might have something to do with the Welcoming Center where you have to confess your greatest heartbreaks, joys and important memories, leaving them locked up forever, as soon as you enter the “Perfect” town.

But Elodee’s been hanging on. She still has three more stories to tell, and she discovers she doesn’t want to let go. Something is missing from her life. Hanging on is causing strange things to happen in Eventown. Elodee and Naomi’s house has flowers growing everywhere, and the weather is changing from perfect sunshine to rain. Loud and crazy rain.

Naomi is begging Elodee to leave their hard Juniper life behind. But Elodee and her best friend in Eventown, Veena, aren’t so sure.

Will Elodee and Veena find their stories. Will they prove to Eventown that sometimes it’s better to remember? Will they show the people of their small town that they have forgotten their whole lives before Eventown?

Happy and sad at the same time, this story is one you will never forget!

– Don’t forget to read it!

Love,
Book Twin #2,
Nidhi
