“Everyone’s got something. Some people are just better actors than others.”
Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone is a young adult fiction novel. This is the first book I have read by Tamara, but I was immediately blown away by her beautiful, poetic-like writing!
Summary:
This book focuses on Samantha (Sam) McAllister, a teen girl who is your typical popular girl. She has been friends with the same people since she could remember, but she struggles with this one thing…OCD. Samantha makes a new friend, Caroline and is introduced to “Poet’s Corner”, where she discovers many amazingly beautiful things about herself and makes a devastating discovery.
Review:
First, I would just like to say a trigger/content warning. This book covers many difficult topics such as depression, anxiety, suicide, and OCD. Now that has been disclosed, I absolutely LOVED this book! I knew from the first few pages that I would immediately enjoy this book. We follow Samantha otherwise known as Sam, and we see all of her struggles with her OCD starting with her compulsive desires to her obsession with the number 3. I think Tamara did a fantastic job with showing how OCD feels and affects a person’s day to day life. I loved all of the characters and love even more when we get poems written by members of “Poet’s Corner.” I will say I did slightly suspect what the plot was, but even when it was revealed it still hit me as much as it would’ve if I hadn’t guessed it. The beautifully yet devastating writing for the plot twist and watching just how much it affects our main character Sam was beautiful and it brought me to tears. There was so much soul in this writing I felt like I genuinely knew all of these characters and would laugh with them or cry for them. Overall, this book was beautifully written with such charming characters and a heartwarming story!
Rating: 📚📚📚📚📚 – fun and heartfelt! (5/5)
