Ellie Cowan tells it like it is.
And she’s a pretty normal person, except for one little detail. She has cerebral palsy, and has to use a wheelchair.
Having cerebral palsy means that Ellie can’t do much. And this means that her single mom worries and stresses out about her too much. Ellie wants to become a professional baker, and win money to help out her mom. But none of that will happen if Ellie has to go to Eufaula, Oklahoma, the middle of nowhere, to help her grandpa who’s struggling with dementia.
When Ellie goes to Eufaula, she learns that if her Grandpa doesn’t get better soon, he will have to go to a retirement home, instead of staying at their “homey” trailer park. Ellie’s mom also tells her that they will have to stay for the spring to help out.
Then, Ellie meets Coralee, a cheerful, loud, and friendly girl who has a great voice and wants to be a singer/pageant winner. Coralee shows her that having a disability isn’t all bad.
Coach Hutch is the gym coach at Ellie‘s new middle school in Eufaula. Unlike any other coach who would make her sit out on all the activities, he gives her time and attention to make her stronger.
When a medical tragedy occurs, it’s only then that Ellie finds the strength to show her mom why they have to stay in Eufaula.
Will Ellie find the strength to find her true limitless inner self beyond her limited physical self ? Will Ellie’s grandpa get better? And most importantly, will Ellie convince her mom to stay in Eufaula, Oklahoma, where they belong?
