A Gilmore Girls Autumn: Book Recs for Every Rory Love Interest

Fall is approaching quickly, and you know what that means: Gilmore Girls season is officially here! The show is an annual rewatch classic. Every year its viewership goes about 14 percent higher in the fall and winter months than in spring and summer. From its cozy small-town aesthetic to the sometimes infuriating romances, Gilmore Girls is peak 2000s comfort TV.

Revisiting Stars Hollow is one of my favorite parts of fall, but what I love even more is curling up under a blanket with a good book. As a big reader and longtime Gilmore Girls fan, I’ve put together a fall reading list based on your favorite Rory Gilmore love interest. I’ve matched popular romance tropes with each relationship and if you haven’t seen the show yet, maybe these pairings will convince you to start!

If you’re already a Gilmore Girls fan, let me know which team you’re on. Personally, I’m Team Tristan (if you get it, you get it).

Note: Gilmore Girls is generally recommended for ages 14 and up, so these book picks are also appropriate for high school readers. Always check with a parent or guardian before reading books from our Book-It Lists.

Dean Forester

Dean and Rory’s relationship perfectly captures the magic and slow unraveling of first love. It’s that seemingly perfect, comfortable bond where you don’t notice the cracks until it’s too late. Their story shows how high school sweethearts can grow in different directions.

Tropes: First Love, Second Chance Romance, Love Triangle

Books:

Talking at Night by Claire Daverley
The Do-Over by Lynn Painter
The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

Jess Mariano

Jess and Rory embody the “right person, wrong time” dynamic. He is quiet and brooding while she is bright and talkative. Their chemistry is undeniable, but timing never seems to be on their side.

Tropes: Right Person, Wrong Time, Situationship, Emotionally Unavailable MMC

Books:
Betting on You by Lynn Painter
Next of Kin by Hannah Bonam-Young
Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

Tristan Dugray

Tristan and Rory bring that classic enemies to lovers’ vibe. He is the charming troublemaker and she is the studious new girl. Their witty banter and spark make you wish their story had more time to unfold.

Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, He Falls First
Books:
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter
Book Lovers by Emily Henry

Logan Huntzberger

Logan and Rory have a more steady relationship compared to Rory’s past ones. Logan is a lot more spontaneous and daring, while Rory is cautious and responsible. Logan helps Rory open up and take risks, but their relationship still faces its fair share of ups and downs. They struggle with trust and commitment, making their relationship feel realistic and relatable.

Tropes: Opposites attract, Commitment issues

Books:

The Mistake by Elle Kennedy

One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune

The Right Move by Liz Tomforde

Bonus: Luke Danes and Lorelai Gilmore

Rory’s mom and the local diner owner share the ultimate slow burn romance. Lorelai’s quirky humor meets Luke’s gruff steadiness, creating years of simmering tension that finally turns into something real.

Tropes: Slow Burn, Friends to Lovers
Books:
People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry
The Cheat Sheet by Sarah Adams
One Day in December by Josie Silver

Wishing everyone a wonderful autumn season and happy reading!

Love, Hailie
