Our Team

Girls for Books is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in San Antonio, Texas. It is run by two high school students, Neerja and Nidhi Bathla, who love to read and yearn to share that passion with the world. What started as a blog to share reviews of books we loved as 10 year olds has grown into a city wide organization with far reaching impact.

We have ambassadors in schools across San Antonio writing book reviews and starting book clubs. We have a Book club with Girls inc of San Antonio. We are partnering with the city of San Antonio , Public libraries, local bookstores and YMCA to bring back the passion for reading in girls around us. We believe that — Girls who read…become women who lead.

Our Story

Reading is one of the best things in our lives. We have always been voracious readers and love that by reading books, you can submerge yourself in a whole new world. Reading also gives us new ideas and perspectives about our surroundings.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we decided to start a book blog, called Bookwanderers, to share our passion for reading with like-minded book lovers. At the end of 2021, we started an Instagram account to promote our blog, but we have always wanted it to turn into something bigger.

In March of 2024, we won the state-wide Speak Up Speak Out civic action competition. We took that win and made Girls for Books into something bigger, turning it into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit so that we could share and spread our cause with the world.

We hope that through this organization, we will not be the only ones who are exposed to the power of books, but empowering others as well. We want the chance to have and to witness more conversations about reading and for others to feel and to share the magic in books too.

So, we invite you to help change the conversation, creating a word-empowered world, with Girls For Books!
